When I Sing "It's The End of the World As We Know It"

There are anniversaries that make me sing these lyrics,

"It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine"

2/21/88 was when Swaggart confessed to having sexual escapades with a prostitute, I had been emerged in that world for four years, my life was at Swaggart Ministries. I knew very little else it seemed.  I worked there, my friends were there, my church was there. When he fell, it was the end of the world as I knew it because everything started to fall apart. People left, people stayed, my faith was shaken and everything was changed forever.

9/11/01 I was folding clothes at the Gap, getting ready to open the store. We got a call from one of the managers husbands, he told us what was going on and we turned on the radio. As I listened to the news unfold I heard this song in my head, "It's the end of the world as we know it, it's the end of the world as we know it.." and it was. Everything had changed for our country, for our world. So much death. It destroyed our feeling of superiority, like we were untouchable. We had been hit and hit hard. Killed on our own soil. A horrific day that changed everything.

It truly was the end of the world as we knew it.

7/22/12 I was on my way home from church when I received this text from Jeremy, our drummer at the Dream Center, "You know why Dino is taking a sabbatical?'

I responded with, "No, what are you talking about?"

"He announced this morning that he was taking a sabbatical, needs rest.."

"Hum, well this is the first I'm hearing of it, maybe he just needs a break. Good for him." I replied. Or something like that.

Little did I know. Little did I know.

So today will always be the day that another ministry I was involved in fell apart.

And the world that I knew was ended.

Since this day last year, everything has changed, Dino and Delynn resigned, have sold their house and I hear are moving to another state. Some changes, I'm sure, are for the better, but that's hard to see right now so I hope. I do really hope. Many wonderful people have left, some have stayed. I'm honestly trying to walk in forgiveness, praying the spin doctors and the spin machine breaks forever and stops spinning and the truth comes out but even if it never stops,  I have to forgive, we all have to and so I'm still working through that.

"It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)"

That's great, it starts with an earthquake
Birds and snakes, an aeroplane, and Lenny Bruce is not afraid

Eye of a hurricane, listen to yourself churn
World serves its own needs, don't misserve your own needs
Feed it up a knock, speed, grunt, no, strength
The ladder starts to clatter with a fear of height, down, height
Wire in a fire, represent the seven games
And a government for hire and a combat site
Left her, wasn't coming in a hurry with the Furies breathing down your neck

Team by team, reporters baffled, trumped, tethered, cropped
Look at that low plane, fine, then
Uh-oh, overflow, population, common group
But it'll do, save yourself, serve yourself
World serves its own needs, listen to your heart bleed
Tell me with the Rapture and the reverent in the right, right
You vitriolic, patriotic, slam fight, bright light
Feeling pretty psyched

It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine

Six o'clock, TV hour, don't get caught in foreign tower
Slash and burn, return, listen to yourself churn
Lock him in uniform, book burning, bloodletting
Every motive escalate, automotive incinerate
Light a candle, light a motive, step down, step down
Watch your heel crush, crush, uh-oh
This means no fear, cavalier, renegade and steering clear
A tournament, a tournament, a tournament of lies
Offer me solutions, offer me alternatives, and I decline

It's the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine (It's time I had some time alone)
I feel fine (I feel fine)

It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine (It's time I had some time alone)

The other night I dreamt a nice continental drift divide
Mountains sit in a line, Leonard Bernstein
Leonid Brezhnev, Lenny Bruce, and Lester Bangs
Birthday party, cheesecake, jellybean, boom
You symbiotic, patriotic, slam but neck, right? Right

It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine (It's time I had some time alone)

It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine (It's time I had some time alone)

It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine (It's time I had some time alone)

It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it (It's time I had some time alone)
It's the end of the world as we know it, and I feel fine (It's time I had some time alone)

(It's time I had some time alone)
