National Service Day, 2010 at the BRDC

Last year President Obama designated September 11th, National Service Day in honor of the 911 victims. The idea is for people to spend the day serving each other in their honor.

My church, Healing Place Church, decided to have a SERVE day today where people from the Highland Campus could come help do some renovations, repairs, and clean up around the Dream Center. Today the Dream Center staff and volunteers welcomed over 200 HPC family members that came to help paint, clean, do yard work, pressure wash, and of course, no day at the Dream Center is complete without giving away lots of great stuff to the community. So, the volunteers also helped with a warehouse giveaway in the parking lot and at a few trailer parks around the Dream Center area.

HPC family, You served the Dream Center which is your outreach to the area of town that has the most teen homicides, the highest high school drop out rate and the highest teen pregnancy rate. But your outreach facility, that you came today and helped improve, serves the community through Homeless outreach, a free clothing boutique, a prison reentry program for ex offenders, a mentoring program for teen age girls in the foster care system, an after school program, street outreach to prostitutes and at-risk youth, a resource cafe, Sunday services, connect groups, free groceries and weekly street outreaches. And God is moving here, He's changing lives,  because you are being the hands and feet of Jesus to this community.

So, Thank you HPC family!!
