Called to be an Activist?

I was sitting in bed reading "There is no Me without you" by Melissa Faye Greene again and thinking about different conversations I had had during the day when the thought popped in my head "You were born to be an activist". But then I thought "Are we called to be activist or is that just our passion taking over? Who were the activist in scripture?"

ac·tiv·ist

[ak-tuh-vist]
–noun

1.an especially active, vigorous advocate of a cause, esp. a political cause.
2.of or pertaining to activism or activists: an activist organization for environmental concern.
3.advocating or opposing a cause or issue vigorously, esp. a political cause.

adjective
1. advocating or engaged in activism

noun
1. a militant reformer [syn: militant]

I think John the baptist would have been classified as an activist. He was "militant" for sure for the cause of Christ. Today, Shane Claibourne definitely is an activist to me.

I got some good advice yesterday from Mrs. Alliece she said, "try waiting 10 seconds before you speak or react to something" I am gonna work on that.

I also keep hearing some words that Pastor Steve from Church of the King said a few years back when he came to preach at HPC. He talked about how he spent many years helping others build their vision but he himself had a vision that he had to lay down. God kept telling Him "build their vision, be and asset to them and one day you will see yours" I know that is where I am right now.

I also keep hearing Pastor Johnny Green, "everything you do or say needs to be motivated by love. Check everything by that". I have to say, this one is that hardest.

Is there such a thing as a teachable Rebel? A submissive Rebel? To me, that is what a christian Activist has to be, both teachable and submissive to authority but not afraid to negotiate and speak out when they must.

Not saying I'm right, just thinking.
